Spider-Man: Brand New Day

I was expecting more with how much hype this one’s been getting. The conflict between Peter’s grindset and his loneliness expressed through his Spider side taking him over is such an interesting concept that barely gets explored. I feel like it’s because it was engineered as an MCU movie first, more interested in setting up for Doomsday than exploring Peter’s character.

Another big complaint I have are the fight scenes. The way they do the CGI action makes it feel there’s zero weight and impact to anything. It really doesn’t feel real or connect me to what’s going on. This has been an issue I’ve had with MCU movies in the past but since I haven’t watched one in a while it really stood out to me.

These same complaints could be said about the previous MCU Spider-Man movies but I enjoyed them so much more. I think it’s because pre-Endgame I was more invested in what the MCU was setting up. Now I’m tired of them doing the same thing over and over again trying to recreate a moment instead of letting these stories breathe separate from some kind of bigger picture. I can’t help but compare Brand New Day to The Batman, Penguin, Superman, Invincible, and especially the Spider-Verse movies. I don’t have superhero fatigue, I just want interesting characters and good action.
